Commercial finance companies, such as a factoring company are required to do an OFAC search on all new borrowers. As you are already aware, any transfer of funds over $10,000 is tracked by the U.S. Treasury in their efforts to stop nefarious activity. For us, it is a formality as we have yet to uncover an Al Capone looking for factoring. But it does happen, and we play by the rules, so it is extremely important when completing the factoring application to provide ownership details so we can do the necessary searches.
Greater detail on the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury may be found here.
